This week we are continuing our look at the 7 Habits by looking at Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind. We are focusing on making plans to achieve the goals we set. You may have noticed that your child was given a planner at the beginning of the year. Each day, we are filling out our planner with the things we are doing. This helps them know how the day will go and mentally prepare for what we are learning. We are also taking time each Monday to plan for the things we are doing outside of school. For example: sports practices or games, family events, etc. This could be something to discuss with your child at home so they can continue to work on this habit.
Some important things happening in our school: 1. Friday, September 2 and Monday, September 5 there will be no school in observance of Labor Day. 2. We are collecting Box Tops for Education. I sent home a Pokemon themed collection page last Friday. If you purchase anything that has Box Tops, please send them in. Each Box Top is 10 cents donated to our school.

As we enter into the second full week of school, we are focusing on Habit 1: Be Proactive. Your students are learning to be proactive instead of reactive. Today, we talked about how being reactive is like shaking a bottle of soda: it explodes! Whereas being proactive is like shaking a bottle of water: it remains calm. A big part of being proactive is choosing your own "weather", or attitude. This week we will talk about what types of "weather" we should have, and what types we should try to avoid.
We will also look at our "Circle of Control" to see what things we are in control of and what we are not. I hope that you are able to practice these habits at home with your child. Here are some links of videos and activities that you can do together to practice Habit 1. Kid President Berenstain Bears Proactive Phrases "I Can't Do It" I am looking for parents who would like to volunteer or be the homeroom helper. To volunteer, I need for you to fill out this form. Thank you so much!
Mrs. Adams Well, we have made it through the first few days of school and I have loved getting to know your kids! The first few days have been mainly focused on team building and learning the expectations of being a third grader.
This year, a main focus will be on finding the leader in all of us. We are learning about Stephen Covey's 7 habits of highly effective people. Each day, we are learning a new one and working hard to understand what each of them mean. Thursday, we learned about Being Proactive. Friday, we learned to Begin with the End in Mind. Today, we learned to Put First Things First. You may have noticed that your child was sent home with a planner this year. We will be using these daily to write down what we are doing in class, but your child will also be using them as a tool to plan their "Big Rocks" and "Little Rocks". In other words, they are taking time each week to plan the important things they need to do. I will also be using their planners as a way to communicate what behavior color your child was on that day. I will put a colored Sharpie check mark at the bottom of the day. If they are on orange or red, I will let you know why. I like to keep communication open, so I have added a new way to communicate that may be more convenient for many of you. It is an app called "Remind". It is free to use and is also completely confidential. You can subscribe and I will then have the ability to text you or you can text me. If you are interested in subscribing, click here. Mrs. Adams Well, it's that time of year again, one of my favorite times of year: the beginning of the school year! I am so excited to get to know all of my new students and spend the year learning and growing together. We are going to have so much fun!
Some important dates to remember: August 9th at 6:00 is Meet the Teacher night. I hope you all can come so that I can meet each and every one of you! Also don't forget that school starts on Thursday, August the 11th, less than a week away! Enjoy your last few days of summer and I will see you soon! Mrs. Adams |
