Well, we have made it through the first few days of school and I have loved getting to know your kids! The first few days have been mainly focused on team building and learning the expectations of being a third grader.
This year, a main focus will be on finding the leader in all of us. We are learning about Stephen Covey's 7 habits of highly effective people. Each day, we are learning a new one and working hard to understand what each of them mean. Thursday, we learned about Being Proactive. Friday, we learned to Begin with the End in Mind. Today, we learned to Put First Things First. You may have noticed that your child was sent home with a planner this year. We will be using these daily to write down what we are doing in class, but your child will also be using them as a tool to plan their "Big Rocks" and "Little Rocks". In other words, they are taking time each week to plan the important things they need to do. I will also be using their planners as a way to communicate what behavior color your child was on that day. I will put a colored Sharpie check mark at the bottom of the day. If they are on orange or red, I will let you know why. I like to keep communication open, so I have added a new way to communicate that may be more convenient for many of you. It is an app called "Remind". It is free to use and is also completely confidential. You can subscribe and I will then have the ability to text you or you can text me.
